Have an "out of valley experience" this winter while participating in WVRD's Uphill Field trips Outside WV. Glimpse the sport's future while ascending and descending the trails of its storied past here in the White Mountains. Explore the wide winter world beyond Waterville Valley with experienced backcountry skiers; Jen Holloway, Bill Powell, and Tyler Durham. They will share helpful tips about; terrain selection, heat management, uphill travel techniques, downhill strategies, stoke fueling, and much more. These outings will be adventurous affairs in which the group will be meeting the natural conditions of the day. Many trail surfaces may be encountered; packed snow/ice possibly with rocks and roots exposed or covered by fresh snow, frozen ruts created by previous users, slush, or even a foot of glittering fresh powder snow. Turnaround times will be established before heading uphill, and will be adhered too regardless of summit proximity. The goal for these trips is to have a great time skiing uphill and down on great trails, not summiting peaks. Mt Moosilauke- People have been racing down the slopes of Mt. Moosilauke for nearly 100 years. The first organized race taking place in April of 1927. On this UFO WV tour we will be skiing some of the same trails with different equipment and lower velocities which should allow for a more nuanced appreciation of the magnificent surrounding scenery. Distance: 10.2 miles (round trip to summit) Elevation Gain/Descent: 3080' 7:45am -5pm Member/ $125 Guest/$140 Transportation from WVRD provided. All backcountry skiing adventurers required to bring: -positive and cooperative attitude -solid physical fitness. -ability to ski narrow, ungroomed (moguls, ice, deep powder) trails competently -skis, boots, poles, skins -backpack with 10 essentials plus extra food, water and clothing for winter outings PLEASE NOTE: There is a 3 participant minimum for adventures. Refunds will be issued in the event of a cancellation.
